ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PAX Labs is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help design, build and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture. You will work closely with internal stakeholders on identifying data-related technical issues and supporting data infrastructure needs. We are looking for an integral member of the Software team that will help define the Data Engineering function at PAX Labs.
As the PAX Senior Data Engineer, you will:
Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
Identify, design, and implement internal processes and process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc
Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies
Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Software, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
Keep our data separated and secure across geographical boundaries through multiple data centers and AWS regions
Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader
Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN YOU
3-6 years of experience working as a Data Engineer (or equivalent)
Comfort working in an agile and/or lean development environment
Experience with modern data pipelines, data streaming, and real time analytics using systems such as Airflow, AWS Kinesis, Kafka, Spark Streaming, AWS Lambda, ElasticSearch, AWS Athena, Zeppelin, Jupyter, or similar technologies
Strong programming abilities with Java, Scala, Python, R or other similar languages
A strong ability to understand and organize data from various sources and advanced analytical skills related to working with unstructured datasets
Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ pipelines, architectures and data sets
Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores
Strong project management and organizational skills
Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
Write clear, concise and maintainable code
Must be a strong, self-motivated individual that can work with minimal day to day supervision and able to objectively rank and prioritize development work
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Experience with the following software / tools:
Big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
Relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL (RDS) and Cassandra.
Data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.
AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, Kinesis, Lambda, RDS, Redshift
Stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.
Object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Scala, C++, etc.
Experience with bash scripting, and Terraform a plus.
Knowledge of machine learning tools and concepts a plus.
Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field preferred or equivalent experience
