Summary
The Tissue Culture Supervisor position is a hands-on position to support micro-propagation of cannabis plants. The role will manage the Tissue Culture Lab processes and all its employees. This position will also be involved with learning the current processes, cross training existing team members where needed, and assisting in building a team to address large scale tissue culture demands for production and quality.
Essential Functions

Supervisory tasks such as writing and giving performance reviews for the team, setting individual and team goals and expectations, providing support for the team to learn and grow, monitoring of routine production activities, and providing gap analysis and resource planning
Performing large scale tissue culture activities to support multiple MedMen production areas
Ensures that all work areas are kept clean and organized
Assisting with planning and troubleshooting as needed
Updating tissue culture and other databases with samples and results
Drafting, editing and following SOP’s and batch records
Work in conjunction with Cultivation Manager on production scheduling and crop cycles

Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages all hourly employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department in partnership with The Human Resources Department.
Work Environment
This job normally in a laboratory setting environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.
The noise level in the work environment can be loud, tight corners and work spaces. Extensive walking and equipment operation. Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers and pollen producing environment. Work time expectation: 80% of time will be physical labor, 5% training and misc.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some examples are: lifting to 50lbs, some work with hands above head, bending over for extended period, and working in tight, dusty, cold, hot, spaces, etc. Working with hazardous chemicals will be associated with this position.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Minimal travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
Must be at least 21 years of age
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Master Degree (M.Sc.) in Tissue Culture or related field
4 years or more of previous experience with plant based cell culture techniques
Previous experience working in an ISO, QSR, or cGMP compliant environment
Experience and confidence in working in an aseptic laboratory setting
Previous supervisory experience
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Effective time-management skills and ability to multitask.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment
