We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer with a strong background in mechanical design and analysis to support and improve existing production, with a focus on process improvement and automation.
Functions & Specifications
Performs all duties in a safe manner, following Company SOPs, work rules and policies.
Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements.
Conducts complex engineering and related studies, evaluates alternatives, makes recommendations and presents reports to various audiences.
May assist in inventing / creating concepts and designs/approaches for new products/processes/test methods.
Achieves work process improvement and promotes continuous work process improvement.
Integrate automation technology where ever practical.
Design, execute, monitor and report on engineering experiments to create workable solutions.
Test, research, theorize and compute the movement of current systems and identify areas of optimization.
Manage new technology implementation.
Manage and report on performance of new processes or technology as needed or required.
Establish an effective and efficient work sequence.
Devise new solutions to existing manufacturing problems.
Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments.
Ensure projects are completed on-time and within the specified budget.
Build quality into all aspects of their work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements.
Prepares standard reports/documentation and ability to communicate results clearly to various audiences.
Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, data base management, spreadsheet applications and email.
Ability to be flexible and work well with various departmental managers within the Rock Island facility, as well as with corporate senior leadership and managers in all locations of GTI.
Must work well with others, maintain effective working relationships and be able to adapt quickly to changes in policy, procedure and technique.
Use of independent judgment in regard to product processing, keeping quality, projections and goals in mind while not overstepping chain of command.
Proactively help create a positive environment through a positive attitude and self-motivation.
Help promote the company’s vision and goals; lead by example, (example: event and volunteer assistance at Company and Company-sponsored events).
Must have a solid understanding of the Medical Marijuana laws, rules and regulations set forth by the state and the D.O.A.; a pursuit to further their understanding and knowledge of the industry and the laws is appreciated and commendable.
Fundamental knowledge, as well as the ability to be taught and guided in each departments’ operations.
Skill in analyzing potential problems and problem resolution.
Shows self-motivation/innovation and the ability to work well with all members of the GTI.
Able to provide leadership and/or mentorship among team members; provide support and encourages collaboration.

Requirements; Education; Skills; Experience; and Working Conditions
Illinois driver’s license or State ID card.
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Must pass all required background checks.
Must be and remain compliant with all legal and company regulations for working in the industry.
Must be approved by the D.O.A. to receive an Agent badge.
Minimum Education, Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology required.
5-7 years of related experience required.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification required; Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred.
Expertise in data and problem analysis, creative problem solving and design thinking.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, including creating and delivering presentations.
Employee must be able to perform and maintain focus on his/her tasks without being distracted by noise, other departments working in close proximity and/or various inspectors/contractors requiring access to their facility.
Employee must be able to adapt to constant change and be able to understand, manage and engage new policies and procedures in a short time period.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, talking, hearing, climbing, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crawling, seeing and repetitive motions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work on feet. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 pounds (100 pounds with assistance) AND must be able to do so safely with extreme care and caution.
