How Do I Become a Budtender in Massachusetts?

To become a budtender in Massachusetts, you must be over 21 years old and be a resident of Massachusetts. Additionally, you will be asked to pass a background (CORI) check. You do not need a college degree, but having one is preferable. If you do not have a college degree, training or experience in the cannabis industry is an acceptable substitute.

How Do I Become a Budtender in Washington State?

To become a budtender in Washington State, you must be over 18 years old and be a resident of Washington. Additionally, you will be asked to pass a background check. You do not need a college degree, but having one is preferable.

How Do I Become a Budtender in Oregon?

To be a budtender in Oregon, you must be at least 21 years of age and obtain your OLCC worker permit. You can find the step by step directions for getting your permit here.

How do I Become a Budtender in Michigan?

To become a budtender in Michigan, first you have to be a resident of Michigan. Secondly, you must apply for a Michigan Medical Marijuana Caregiver/Patient card. A link to the necessary applications and forms can be found here. Once you have obtained your card, you may apply and be considered for a budtender position.

Do I Have to go to School to be a Budtender?

The required education for budtenders is generally a high school degree or equivalent. However, it will likely be difficult to get a budtender job with just a high school diploma. Most dispensaries will only hire those with college degrees or cannabis training/experience.

What Does a Budtender Do?

Budtenders are professional cannabis experts. They are the customer’s main point of contact in a dispensary and the person who fields questions about each product prior to filling orders. Butenders are highly knowledgeable about the products, passionate about marijuana, and genuinely enjoy providing a good customer experience.

How Do You Get Your Budtender’s License in Colorado?

To get your Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) Badge (budtender’s license) in Colorado, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of Colorado
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Never been convicted of a felony related to possession of a controlled substance
  • Have not served a sentence, including probation or parole, of any felony in the last five years
  • Are not a licensed physician making patient recommendations
  • Have never had your authority to act as a primary caregiver revoked by the state
  • Are not the spouse or child, living in the house with any employee of the MED
  • Are not a police officer, sheriff, deputy sheriff, or prosecuting officer
  • Are not an officer or employee of the marijuana state licensing authority or a local licensing authority

How Do You Become a Cannabis Trimmer?
  • Education/Experience: Trimmers generally do not require more than a high school diploma. A college degree or experience with trimming would be a huge plus.
  • Licensing: They may also need to be licensed by the state in which they work. Expect to be asked to pass a background check and pay a fee to the state to obtain this license.
  • Knowledge: It will be important to understand the plant anatomy as well as differences between as many strains as possible.
  • Skills: Trimmers should be able to accurately weigh and measure plant matter, handle matter with care, and preform fine motor functions for long periods of time.
How Do You Become a Cannabis Grower?
  • Education: Growers should have at least a bachelors degree in horticulture, agriculture, or agronomy. It should be noted that these degrees do not have to be marijuana specific.
  • Licensing: They may also need to be licensed by the state in which they work. Get your license prior to applying for a position and it will put you ahead of other candidates since you will be ready to start working immediately. Expect to be asked to pass a background check and pay a fee to the state to obtain this license.
  • Knowledge: In addition to formal education, you should also do your own reading. Two books every aspiring grower should read are The Marijuana Grower’s Handbook by Ed Rosenthal and The Grower’s Bible by Jorge Cervantes.
